Meet Dr. Curtis – The Professional Side

Dr. Erik Curtis grew up in Salt Lake City and is the oldest of 5 children. He has “oldest child syndrome” and is a bit of a perfectionist and a high-achiever, just what your looking for in an orthodontist – right?

Dr. Curtis has been in the exclusive practice of orthodontics since 1999 and is dedicated to providing quality care in a fun, happy and upbeat environment. Dr. Curtis is grateful to his dental peers that have voted him as Top Dentist for several years. He is also thrilled that his patients and community have voted him as “Best of North Idaho” since 2010. These are awards he feels honored to receive from patients, our community, professional colleagues and dentists alike.

He attended the University of Utah and graduated Magna Cum Laude, was awarded a distinctive scholarship to attend the ‘top ten dental school’ at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and went on to graduate with a Doctor of Dental Surgery as valedictorian (#1 in his dental class). During dental school he was bestowed numerous awards and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society (an honor granted to only the top 5% of dental students nationally). Upon graduating from dental school Dr. Curtis pursued an additional two-years of orthodontic specialty training at the University of Iowa where he received his Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics as well as a Master of Science Degree. During his dental education Dr. Curtis completed research that has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics. Dr. Curtis is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the American Orthodontic Association. Dr. Curtis received the distinction of ‘Board Certified Orthodontist’ from the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a past president and current member of the Panhandle Dental Society. Dr. Curtis has been the director of the Seattle Study Club, director of the Pinnacle Dental Study Club as well as director of the North Idaho Pinnacle Dental Hygiene Study Club. He is a current member of various elite national orthodontic study clubs. Dr. Curtis has always strived to be the best at what he does, and he is committed to furthering his education to remain on the leading edge of the orthodontic profession.

What does all this mean for you? It’s fairly simple, it means that the patients who receive orthodontic care from Dr. Curtis can feel assured that they are receiving orthodontic treatment from a board certified orthodontist that excelled in all areas of his specialty training. It also means that his patients can feel confident they are receiving technologically advanced, high quality and efficient orthodontic treatment.

Meet Dr. Curtis, the real guy – on a more personal level

Dr. Curtis, along with his wife and four children, has lived in North Idaho since the summer of 2001. He has three sons (Colton, Garret and Bracken) and one daughter (Addy). They are happiest when they are spending time together as a family. Winters are spent on our local ski slopes. Spring and fall are spent out on our rivers fly-fishing – carrying on the tradition taught to him by his father and grandfather. Summers are spent enjoying the warm weather on our beautiful lakes and on local golf courses.

Dr. Curtis is actively involved in his church. He served a two- year church mission in Argentina and speaks Spanish fluently. He provides leadership to the youth in his church and helps facilitate youth and adult programs. Dr. Curtis is an advocate of the Boy Scouts of America program and enjoys working with this great organization.

As an orthodontic practice, he supports our local schools, local charities, community events and many athletic teams.

“I have one of the best jobs in the world! It is extremely rewarding to increase self-confidence and self-esteem by helping people love to smile. I feel blessed to have the unique opportunity to get to know each of my patients and watch their personalities and lives change as their smiles are transformed into something truly beautiful!”
